What did we do at camp this week? June 23, 2018 The first week is almost over, and with the sun shining and activities in full swing, camp has never been better! This week was packed with great actvities, an incredible Mari-Meta league announcement, and lots of learning about camp and all of the activities campers can choose from! A basic schedule at camp looks something like this: 8:00-Wake up 8:30-Breakfast 9:00-Cabin Clean Up 9:30-First period activities 10:30-Second period activities 11:30-Third period activities 12:30-Lunch 1:30-Rest Hour 2:30-Fourth period activities 3:30-Fifth period activities 4:30-General (Free time!) 6:00-Dinner 7:30-Evening Activity 9:00-Bed! We think it’s important to keep the campers always moving, and of course, always having fun! Activities All campers get to choose their activities on the first day of camp. They are required to take a swimming and a tennis class. Some of the activities we offer at camp are: water skiing and tubing paddle boarding kayaking and canoeing windsurfing aerobics zumba soccer basketball lacrosse field hockey yoga high ropes arts and crafts dance gymnastics fishing In each class, campers are mixed with girls from multiple cabins and are encouraged to become friends with campers of all ages! Evening Activities This week, campers spent their evenings mostly getting to know each other and their counselors. They started both Mari-Meta League and Olympics and had fun competing in different games every night! This week, our evening activities were: Monday: Counselor Lip-Syncs During pre-camp the counselors for each cabin made up a little dance that went along with their cabin theme and performed it on the first night of camp! Tuesday: Staffingo During this game, each cabin is paired with a couple girls from senior cabin and as a whole they go around camp trying to guess each counselor’s fun fact! Wednesday: Olympics! The JC’s prepared an exciting evening of team competition games of dodgeball, steal the bacon, human battleship, kickball, neucome, and basketball that each country competed in! Thursday: T-Shirt Relay and Chocolate Game! The T-shirt relay is the first competition of Mari-Meta league and is the first time that the campers see the shirts! Chocolate game is a camp favorite where the girls must try to roll double sixes in order to eat a chocolate bar with a fork and knife! Friday: Capture the Flag and a Campfire Capture the Flag is lots of campers favorite evening activity that is played every Friday. With Mari’s versus Meta’s the games are fun but competitive! Afterward both Maris and Metas bundle up next to the campfire to sing songs and share special moments together! Mari-Meta League Announcement!!! Every year the camp waits anxiously for the Lodge to announce the Mari-Meta teams and senior cabin captains. This year, each cabin was told that they were going to raid the mess hall late at night. When they all got to the mess hall they hid under a table and soon realized that every other cabin was in there. The counselors cracked glow sticks that were purple (for Meta’s) and orange (for Mari’s) and handed them out to the campers. When senior cabin finally came into the mess hall, all they saw was the two colors and they were filled with excitement! The Lodge staff then announced the captains! At Marimeta, one of the biggest honors you can receive is becoming a captain. Captains are campers who have shown great leadership and have followed all of our Marimeta Morals at camp. They are good sports and they always listen and participate in activities. This year’s Mari-Meta League Captains are: Mari Team: Overall Captain: Maddie L. Co-Captains: Haley S., Natalie S., and Emma P. Little Captains: Ella D., Hailey P., Maggie D., Taylor K. Meta Team: Overall Captain: Zoey L. Co-Captains: Taylor G., Mara L., Katey P. Little Captains: Avery E. Ashley S., Elle F., Taylor M.
