Miss Marimeta July 3, 2012Dear Mom and Dad, Hi! How are you? I’m doing great! Yesterday it was soooooo hot outside! We had regular activities during the morning and then in the afternoon we had an inter-camp Chippewa. The little kids went there and the big kids stayed here. I played soccer, basketball, and tennis. It was also general waterfront at camp in the afternoon. It was so nice to be in the lake! Meta Lake is amazing this summer. It was 85 yesterday! I went tubing, but I didn’t fall off! I also went down the summit like 50 times. The summit is my favorite part of general waterfront. We then had MTV practice because it is coming up so soon. After dinner, we had the Miss Marimeta contest! Miss Marimeta is where every cabin gets a boy to dress up as a girl. A bunch of boys from Menominee came to participate: Will, Steve, Richard, Tom, Terry, Joe, Brendon, and Ben all came to help out. TJ from Ojibwa came to help. And of course Sandy, CJ, and Sony helped out from Marimeta. Kasper K from Monster Entertainment also came to participate. He was awesome. I want him to DJ my Bat Mitzvah!!!!!! Cabin 1 had Will, Cabin 2 had Sandy, Cabin 3 had Steve, Cabin 4 had CJ, Cabin 5 had TJ, Cabin 6/7 had Richard and Tom, Cabin 8 had Terry, Cabin 9 had Kasper, Cabin 10/11 had Joe and Brendon, and Cabin 12/13 had Ben and Sony. CJ dressed up as Grandma Barbie. Cabin 4 and CJ won Miss Congeniality. Sony dressed up as Sonia from Toddlers and Tiaras. Cabin 13 and Sony won Miss Marimeta! A good time was had by all!!! This morning we started out with an MTV practice and will have regular activities the rest of the day. Tomorrow is the 4th of July and I am so excited!!!! Keep looking for my in the pictures. Remember, I’ll be the kid smiling really big! I love and miss you. MnM, Your Camper
Sunday Funday July 1, 2012Dear Mom and Dad, Yesterday was so much fun. We had regular activities and then for evening activity we had a new spin on a classic last night. It was so much fun!!!! We had “horse races”. We did them a little differently this year and it was a hit! There were 11 teams: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, Pink, Black, White, Grey, and Tie Dye. Counselors were on each team as “trainers” and senior cabin members were captains. The best part was how we were divided into our teams. Everyone stood outside of their cabins in a straight line. The counselors and senior cabin members were already in their team colors. They ran to each cabin and grabbed the members of their team and put their color on their face. Check out the pictures they are amazing! The whole camp in rainbow was so pretty! Every team met for awhile to get into team colors and to practice the races. There were 10 races in total. There were all “horse races” where a little kid and big kid are partnered; the big kid is the horse and the little kid is the jockey. Every race was different. There was a piggy back race, a wheel barrel race, and other funny ones like where the jockey sat on the horses leg. It was so much fun!! We also got points for team spirit and cheers. The Orange team with trainer Jenna and captains were Gerri and Natalie were the winners! Then this morning we got to sleep in until 10:30. I slept the whole time! Then we changed our beds and got our laundry ready to be picked up. For lunch we had lox, bagels, cream cheese, eggs, and hash browns…its my favorite meal. We had cabin activities all day. We went skiing, swimming, and on a walk. Then we had Alexanders Pizza for dinner. It was the best Sunday. Tonight we have movie night. We are watching Dolphin Tale. I love and miss you!!! Busy Week at Camp June 30, 2012Dear Mom and Dad, I’ve been having so much fun! On Wednesday we played the chocolate game! It was funny. You have to sit in a circle with your team. Then you all take turns rolling dice until someone gets double sixes. The person that rolled them has to put on funny clothes and then eat a bar of chocolate with a fork and knife. Even though I didn’t win, I still got to eat a lot of chocolate! Then Thursday we had general waterfront because it was so hot out. I went skiing. Then I went paddle boarding. I also went on the summit like 15 times. I love general waterfront! Thursday night we had a neon social with Ojibwa. I saw my brother/my cousin/my friends/that kid, you know his parents. It was fun to dress up in all neon. I hope to get a pony express from my brother/my cousin/my friends/that kid. Friday was regular activities. We get to have free swim on Fridays and also we can go tubing in ski class. Then, last night we played chaos vs. control. The counselors dress in all black and wear flag football belts. All the campers wear white and try to get points by running to different locations with a piece of paper. The counselors try to tag the campers and take their paper, but the campers try to steal the counselors belts. It sounds very confusing, but it is so much fun! It is a Mari vs. Meta event. The Metas won! After the game, we had a campfire. I love campfires. It was fun to hear the speeches and sing the songs. I miss you so much, but I get to see you in 2 weeks!!! Keep looking for me in the pictures! I love you! MnM, Your Camper
BEST NIGHTS EVER! June 27, 2012Dear Mom and Dad, Sorry I haven’t written since Sunday. But, I’ve been having so much fun! On Monday we had normal activities. They were awesome. In cooking class we made chocolate chip cookies. I’ll show you how to make them when I get home. Monday night was the BEST NIGHT EVER!!!! For real!!!!!! We played capture the flag, which is the single best game at camp. There are a ton of pictures of the game up! The Maris and The Metas were tied after 2 rounds. So, we got to play another round! It was so much fun. If we had just played capture the flag, and had not done any other activities it would have been a great night. However, after capture the flag we got to play…STALK THE LANTERN! I don’t know if I told you about stalk the lantern, but it was a game invented at camp during the great power outage of 1998. There was a counselor here from South Africa and she told us about a game they played there in the army. The object of the game is to “stalk” the lantern. The whole camp dresses in all black. Some people even paint their face. The simplest way I can explain it is to think of camp as a giant bulls-eye. The center of the field is the center of the bulls-eye or the lantern. The lantern consists of 4 people. This year it was AJ, Nicola, CJ, and Mari. The lantern all have flash lights. All of the campers are divided into 4 starting points. When it gets pitch black outside, the campers try to crawl and “stalk the lantern”, get as close to the lantern as possible…and to actually stalk the lantern you have to touch the lanterns chair. If the lantern shine their flashlights on the camper, then they are out. The closer you get to the lantern the more points you get. Counselors are then spread out camp to make the other circles of the bulls-eye. Some counselors closest to the center are worth 20 points and the points go down the further from the lantern you get. In past years, there have been two people to stalk the lantern: Paige and Abby. This year no one did. But I did get 10 points. And the Maris won. It might sound a little confusing, but I’ll show you when you come for visiting weekend. Yesterday, we played team comp. I played steal the bacon. Then, we had our first campfire. It was awesome to sing songs and hear speeches about camp. I wonder what amazing things I am going to get to do today? I love you and miss you! MnM, Your Camper
First Sunday of 2012 June 24, 2012Dear Mom and Dad, Today is Sunday. That means we get to sleep in until 10:30. Then we pick our cabin activities. Then, we send our laundry out. We have a special brunch on Sundays. Today was potato bar. It was so good. We also sing funny songs on Sundays. Then we had cabin activities. We went skiing, on the pontoon boat, and then we played tennis. It was a great day. The senior cabin got to go to a waterpark today. And the CIAs got to go to Bond Falls. Now we are having cook out for dinner. Then we get ice cream for dessert. And the best part of Sundays is the movie in the rec hall. I don’t know what it is yet, but I’m excited! I love and
Captains announced June 23, 2012Dear Mom and Dad, Sorry I didn’t write you yesterday, we were so busy. We had normal activities all day yesterday. And then after dinner we did commercial skits. But in the middle of the skit practice, there was a fire drill. I wasn’t scared. We all met in the middle of the field. We sat there for a long time, and then Terry and Jacqui came out of the lodge with squirt guns. We all followed them up to Sandy and Terry’s house. There were green and black fire hats with our names on them! It was the announcing of Mari/Meta league teams! I was so surprised! They announced all of the captains! The overall captain of the Maris is Alyssa and the over all captain of the Metas is Kendall. The co-captains of the Maris are Jordan, Natalie, and Rachel. The co-captains of the Metas are Sophie, Taylor, and Lindsey. The little captains of the Maris are Lindsay, Sloane, and Toni. The little captains of the Metas are Lauren, Maddie, and Sloan. I am on a team (see pictures). Then today we had our normal activities in the morning. But it started raining in the afternoon. So we got a long rest hour. It was awesome. I took a nap and then played jacks. After rest hour they announced MTV groups. I am so excited. I will tell you what song I am doing in a letter coming soon. We had MTV practice until general. At the beginning of general they announced we were going to have a social with Horseshoe! I got to see my brother, cousin, or friends. I danced with my counselors and had a great time. I am having so much fun! I can’t wait for tomorrow. We have capture the flag and a campfire! I love and miss you! MnM, Your camper
Regular activities June 20, 2012Dear Mom and Dad, Project runway was this morning! It was so funny. We had to dress our counselors in funny costumes having to do with our cabin theme. The winners were cabin 1, cabin 4, and cabin 8. Cabin 1 dressed up Jen as the villain from the movie tangled. Cabin 4 dressed up Sammie as the grinch. Cabin 8 dressed up Sophie as an evil prince. Check the pictures, they should be up soon! For lunch we had pita sandwiches. During rest hour, I read a letter from you! I also played tether ball with other kids in my cabin. And then the real fun began! We started normal activities. I had swimming and skiing today. My two favorites! And of course, we had general. I went tubing and also I played jacks in my cabin. I won! Tonight, we are going to play the trunk game. It is one of my favorite games at camp. We have to pick 25 items and put them in a duffel. Then the counselors call out random items and if we have them we get points. Some of the items are really easy, like toothpaste. But, other items are hard like a red shoe. Can’t wait until we have a full day of activities tomorrow!!!!! I love and miss you! MnM, Your Camper
First Day of Camp 2012 June 18, 2012Dear Moms and Dads, We are SO excited for the campers to arrive!!! We even have a poll on when the buses will get here. We’ve had a great week of precamp, but all of the counselors are excited for it to be over and for the real fun to begin. This is looking to be one of the greatest summers of all time. This year we have an amazing staff! Look for pictures and bios on the website tomorrow, so when your campers write home, you can see who they are talking about. Tonight will be counselor lip-syncs…a marimeta tradition on the first night of camp. The theme this year is movie songs. Check for pictures and updates later tonight or tomorrow. We just wanted to say thank you for trusting us with your campers. MnM, Marimeta Staff 2012
