Red and White Announcement 2019!! July 20, 2019We had an incredible Red and White Announcement this week! On Wednesday night at dinner, Carmen realized that her wedding ring was missing! She freaked out in the mess hall (as anyone would) and left the meal to go looking for it. Frankie left soon after to help her, as well as some of our counselors. During General that day she had been playing soccer in the middle of the field, so she figured that’s where it would have to be! Right after dinner, the campers came out and started to help her look. Even with every single camper and counselor in the field, we could not find it! Next, Carmen remembered that she was on the tennis courts earlier that day. She asked everyone to go up there and search. Upon getting to the tennis courts, they were covered with a bunch of red and white rings! Each ring had a girl’s name on it, and it’s color represented her assigned team! After that, the camp excitedly sat down on the tennis courts and heard the announcement of captains for Red and White 2019!! To celebrate the announcement, the girls competed in their new little teams in a couple rounds of Team Competition! The Red and White announcement was such a memorable and special evening at CMFG! At Marimeta, we switch up the red and white teams randomly every summer. This means that each summer the girls have no idea which team they’re going to be on. We believe this makes the announcement more exciting, and ensures that long term conflict or harsh competitiveness does not build between the girls.
2019 Marimeta MTV’s are Here July 6, 2019Camp Marimeta MTV’s are here, ready to perform! Every summer, Senior Cabin works endlessly from the very start of the session getting ready to perform their MTV’s for the rest of the camp. 2019 Camp Marimeta MTV’s are ready to go! Usually the SC campers are partnered up for these dances. This summer Senior Cabin girls, each get to created their own! MTV is one of the biggest Mari/Meta League events. In fact, it counts for the highest points in the competition so it is a very important occasion. The girls around camp start to plan their own MTV’s from when they are still ranchers! Traditionally it is one of the most anticipated evenings at camp! Each senior cabin member chose a song, created costumes, and assigned lip-syncs for their respective songs. In fact, all session long, the girls teach their MTV groups everything they’ve organized. For many girls, MTV’s are their favorite activity at camp! Here’s what’s happening tonight: On the third Saturday of first session, the whole camp gathers in the Rec Hall. Then, every group gets their turn to share their MTV with the rest of the camp! After weeks and weeks of hard work, they get in full costume with smiles bright and perform their dance. Usually some groups even go all out with full bodies of paint and teased hair! Each MTV is judged by the lodge on creativity, lip-syncs, costumes, and dance. Consequently, it’s fierce competition every summer! After that, on Tuesday of next week, the CIA’s will host the MTV awards! On this evening, the camp will rewatch each MTV. In addition, awards will be given to the group with the best score in each category. Finally, one award is also given out to the group who had the highest collective score, and is given the title “Best Overall”. Marimeta MTV’s are going to be a huge hit this summer! Here are a couple of pictures of our MTV’s from last year:
Camp Marimeta Had An Incredible First Week June 22, 2019The first week of Camp Marimeta 2019 has come and gone and it was incredible. It was full of regular activity days, lots and lots of icebreakers, and beautiful days filled with SUN! Over this past week we’ve had an outstanding Mari/Meta league announcement. We also competed in the first round of Olympics. Finally, we finished the week off with some competitive games of Capture the Flag, and we ended the week with a five year campfire. Here’s a quick breakdown of our INCREDIBLE first week at Camp Marimeta: Monday: First of all, the campers arrived, unpacked, and got to know each other with some fun games. After a fun dinner of pizza (yum) at cabin tables, we finished the evening with counselor lip-syncs! Tuesday: Safety Day was a great introduction to camp. The girls spent the day in cabin groups learning about all of the activities at camp. After that, they received lice check. Then make their bead necklaces as part of their rotation. Finally, volleyball and dodgeball rounded out their schedules. For breakfast, we ate Apple Muffins, lunch was chicken fingers, and for dinner, we had spaghetti. During the evening activity, the campers enjoyed learning about all of our counselors in a game of Staffingo! After that it was time to get ready for bed. Wednesday: First day of regular K-Day (kindness day) activities, woooohooo! There are many activities to choose from at Marimeta. For instance, the girls can include: skiing, swimming, paddle boarding, zumba, yoga, tennis, high ropes, and many more activities in their schedule! Most noteworthy, the weather was absolutely perfect. While the sun was shining bright, the wind was cooling us off. We ate eggs and sausage for breakfast, pita sandwiches for lunch, and ribs for dinner. After their fifth period activity of flag football, the lodge surprised Senior Cabin with a football-themed Mari/Meta League announcement! Captains were announced, and the girls were placed on their little teams. To kick off this session-long competition, the girls played T-shirt relay. During the T-shirt relay, the first team to put on all of their assigned shirts first without speaking wins! After dinner, the campers competed with their little teams in two rounds of Team Competition. Some of the games they play during this evening activity include basketball, steal the bacon, kickball, two-ring deck tennis, and newcomb. It was a blast! Thursday: First day of regular G-Day (gratefulness day) activities! With the sun beaming, and a clear sky, the girls had a full day of uninterrupted fun! Today was our first period of General, in other words, the girls have supervised unstructured play time. We encourage the campers to try new activities that they wouldn’t normally participate in at home. For breakfast we ate french toast, at lunch we had italian beef sandwiches (a camp favorite!), and for dinner, teriyaki chicken. Next, we kicked off Olympic League for the evening activity in a round of the Chocolate Game! During the Chocolate Game, each team must roll double sixes until they collect a life jacket, socks, sweatshirt, and sunglasses. When a camper rolls double sixes after that, they must put on all of their collected gear and try to eat a bar of chocolate, piece by piece, with a fork and spoon. This year, the JC’s added a twist to the game: they changed up some of the rules! For instance, when double fives are rolled, the team must run a lap around the field. If snake eyes are rolled, the person eating chocolate can only use one hand, and every time the dice add up to seven, each girl on the team must stand up and do seven jumping jacks! We had so much fun! Friday: Today was another day of normal K-Day activities. The weather was still great, and the counselors ensured that every girl was wearing sunscreen and carrying their water bottles around with them. We ate huevos rancheros for breakfast, tacos for lunch, and turkey with gravy for dinner. The campers competed on their Mari/Meta League teams in capture the flag for the evening activity. Capture the flag is many campers favorite evening activity. As a result, the competition may be fierce, but it is always friendly. Finally, to end the week, the camp gathered around the campfire, singing songs and listening to speeches written by the fifth year campers. These campers wrote about why they keep coming back to camp every summer. It was a perfect end to our perfect week! Check out what a typical day looks like here: https://marimeta.com/about-us/typical-day/ Above all, we have soooo many things to look forward to next week. The pioneer trips will be going out. Therefore, cabin 8 & 9 will be senior cabin. To sum up, this first week at Camp Marimeta has been incredible. We are looking forward to what is next.
