Lessons From Camp!!! September 20, 2018 There are many lessons learned from camp that can be used during the school year. We hope that you intentionally remember many of the universal lessons from camp and choose to continue those behaviors in the off-season. These lessons include many different things such as healthy habits, daily chores, how to treat others, how to never give up on things, how to be flexible and adapt to change. The list is endless. There are a few lessons in particular that we hope you will continue working on this year at school. The first of those is kindness. Today we are exposed to more depression, social disconnection and cyber bullying than ever before. Kindness, respect and friendship are more important than ever. Because of camp you know how to foster friendships outside of screen time, genuine conversations and playtime are the birthplace of friendships instead of Snapchat and Instagram likes. Remember to be inclusive and kind to others regardless of if they are friends to you or not. A little kindness towards others can have endless ripple effects. The second lesson learned from camp we hope you continue is independence. Daily at camp you made your bed, helped with cabin cleanup, had waitressing duties and worked together as a cabin group towards incentives. We know it is easy to rely on your parents or siblings to do some of these things at home. We hope that you choose to continue to help around the house…not for a reward…but because you are a part of a family and when we all chip in, life is better for the whole family. The last one we will focus on here is gratitude. Our days at camp are K and G day schedules…kindness and gratitude. Be thankful for the life that you have, for how hard your parents work to provide for you. We know you are grateful for your summers spent at camp…expand your gratitude to include more things in normal, everyday life. Remember to say thank you! We love you all and are going to miss you this off-season!
