Health and Safety of Marimeta Campers Is my child safe? Is she ok? What if she gets sick? These are all questions we ask ourselves often when our children are away from home for an extended time. At Camp Marimeta these are the issues that we take the most time and care when we are training our staff and addressing our campers themselves. Your child’s health and safety are the leading concerns in everything we do at Marimeta. We have found that good communication from the very start is key. It begins with the health information we ask parents to fill out and doesn’t end till she is home and back in your arms. The more we know the better we can serve your daughter. ACA Accreditation Camp Marimeta has always been a proud accredited member of the ACA (The American Camp Association). ACA accreditation is the best evidence of a camp’s commitment to a high standard of care. With each site and activity carefully examined, we are sure to provide the best practices available. Health Center, Special Health Needs, and Emergencies Our health center is staffed with two nurses who live on campgrounds with us. They have the opportunity to get to know our campers so that they can meet their needs while away from home. It is their job to administer daily medications or just be there for a needed hug. Our nurses provide extra personal attention when any camper is not feeling well. The health center is stocked with almost everything that is needed to care for our campers. If a member of our Marimeta community needs the attention of a specialist or tests were done at the local clinic, it is the nurses’ job along with the parents to assist in making those decisions. In case of a real emergency, the closest hospital is only 6 miles away. We have many procedures in addition to the health center to ensure our camp remains healthy! With regular hand washing and health checks, we are very proud of Marimeta’s high standards of wellness. Common Allergies Allergies have become commonplace and at Camp Marimeta we are able to handle the most prevalent forms. Please feel free to contact us regarding your daughter’s specific allergy to discuss our procedures regarding the allergens with you. Camper Attention with High Staff to Camper Ratio With a 3:1 staff ratio, our campers are assured of a staff member’s attention. All of our staff are certified in first aid and CPR during our staff training. They are also trained in fire safety with our local fire department. All counselors are required to go through a certified background check and depending on where they live have been interviewed many times over. The staff that works on the waterfront are lifeguard certified. These skills are reviewed and verified every year by our directors, who are both StarGuard Instructors. These skills are honed and practice regularly throughout the summer. Ski boat drivers also have been properly schooled in the safe and standard practice of boating. At adventure activities (e.g.high ropes, archery) the counselors have been through skill verifications and get certified following ACA standards. With over 30 years each of experience in hiring staff only the very best will be deemed a Marimeta counselor. Marimeta is a Small, Intimate Camp There is only one road in and out. We are located on a private lake, with no public access. We know most of our neighbors and most all the boat traffic, besides a neighbor’s fishing boat is ours. With all the staff on a first-name basis and the way our facility is set up, we know that your daughter is in a safe and secure setting where she can grow more independent, succeed in her goals and become the best version of herself. Thank you for sharing your daughters with us.
