The trips were out… and 12 yr olds were seniors! July 6, 2011 Dear Marimeta Family and Friends, What an exciting last couple of days we have had here in Marimeta land! We are still lucky enough to have awesome weather! Our Pioneer trips left yesterday- the 13 year olds are in the Wisconsin Dells, our 14 year olds are in Mackinaw Island and the 15 year olds are sailing on Lake Superior! Here at camp we have had the most enthusiastic and adventurous group of Ranchers and Dudes to keep camp at it’s best! Yesterday we started the day with Al Lewis. This activity is a favorite among all- with both campers and counselors choosing their activities throughout the day! We did this up until mid-afternoon, when a very welcome thunderstorm snuck through the area. We hurried into ABC dress-up for the remainder of the afternoon, after a well-deserved canteen break! The evening activity last night was a favorite among campers- the Gunky Quiz! The girls answer questions and when they hit 5 correct points their counselor gets gunked! Watch out for these fantastic pictures as soon as they get posted- they are definitely worth the wait! Our counselors couldn’t have been better sports (although it was probably a good thing that dinner was over after having looked at the interesting concoctions that were whipped up for the gunking)! We woke up once more to sunny skies today! Eggs and bacon are an all-time favorite breakfast and are the best way to prepare for a busy day. We were introduced to a new activity idea by AJ- free play. This is truly when the campers get to pick what they want to do! The campers were able to choose from any activity and just had to pick a counselor to teach them the activity. It was a huge hit! This afternoon brought Marshmallow day! Our girls were in randomly selected groups and went through a rotation of different events- with marshmallows being the key to them all! Marshmallow relay races, marshmallow constructions being built, marshmallow javelin and of course there were s’mores to top it all off! The whole day culminated in marshmallow paint wars- one of the most colorful evening activities in Marimeta’s history! It truly is so much fun with our younger campers here at camp- we can let our imaginations run wild! What more perfect way to finish off the day than with a rattlesnake into Lake Meta! There is no doubt that our campers will sleep well tonight! As soon as we have the internet up and running again we will be posting all the pictures from the past couple of days- and you will be able to see the fun in action! Until the next edition of Letter’s from the Lodge- good night and sleep tight! Always Terry and Jacqui
